Breast Disorders

The surgeons at Columbia Surgical Associates have a multi-faceted approach to the treatment of diseases of the breast: quick action, teamwork, the latest treatment options and individual treatment plans.

Because breast cancer is such a frightening disease, Columbia Surgical Associates strives to see any woman with an abnormal biopsy or any patient with a suspicious breast lump within 48 hours of discovery. In-office ultrasound guided biopsies simplify and speed the evaluation process. The nature of the mass, benign or cancerous, and extent of disease determines whether surgery or another viable treatment like chemotherapy is a more suitable first course of action for the patient, or if any action is necessary at all.

Customized Treatment Plans

Once the evaluation has determined need, the surgeons work in tandem with a multi-disciplinary team of radiologists at the Harris Breast Center at Boone Hospital, medical oncologists, radiation therapists, and pathologists to customize a treatment plan that fits each patient’s health, desires, and lifestyle.

In addition to long-standing procedures, like mastectomies and lumpectomies, offered by the practice, newer minimally invasive techniques such as sentinel lymph node biopsies and intracavitary radiation minimize treatment effects. A sentinel node biopsy is a procedure used to gauge the spread of certain cancers, which allows for minimal lymph node removal. Intracavitary radiation also allows for more targeted treatment, as it delivers radiation directly into a lumpectomy site.

Fight Against Breast Cancer

In the fight against breast cancer, early detection, evaluation, and treatment are critical. The surgeons at Columbia Surgical Associates help you understand your options to choose the best course of action to obtain optimal results and survival.
