Laparoscopic colon resection surgery is an advanced, minimally invasive procedure to remove a diseased section of a colon. Thankfully, Columbia Surgical Associates has a highly skilled and experienced surgical staff with state-of-the-art equipment at their disposal to help remedy any problems.
ABOUT THE PROCEDURE
Columbia Surgical Associates will first ensure a colon resection is the best option through one of two tests: a colonoscopy or barium enema. Preoperative preparation, including blood work, a medical evaluation, chest x-ray and an EKG depending on age and medical condition, are then done and evaluated by qualified surgeons.

During the operation, a specialized camera called a laparoscope is inserted through a cannula (a narrow hollow tube like instrument). The laparoscope transmits images from inside the patient’s abdomen, giving surgeons a magnified view of the patient’s internal organs on a high-resolution monitor. Through the cannulas, surgeons are able to remove part of the colon.
Patients, on average, are able to resume normal activities in 1-2 weeks.
